Lindsey Lascaux is a contemporary multimedia artist currently working out of Austin, Texas.
Based in Austin, Texas, Lindsey Lascaux (b. 1991, Plano, TX) is an Austin-based multimedia artist and writer whose compelling work fosters critical conversations around mental health and societal inequities. Through a vibrant and diverse practice encompassing painting, digital art, and interactive experiences, Lascaux explores themes of hope within the anxious landscape of today's world.
Lascaux's artistic approach often blends socio-historical references with a contemporary aesthetic, subtly weaving serious messages into seemingly absurd and lighthearted narratives. Each painting is digitally rendered prior to the canvas -- generating impossible scenes with 3D animation and machine learning -- and precisely rendered in acrylic remniscient of both the oil paintings of the Old Masters and the commercial printing art of the 1980s alike.
Beyond the canvas, Lascaux delves into interactive art, video, time-based media, software programming, and writing, connecting webs of thought through nodes of art objects.
Drawing from their background in Visual and Critical Studies (MA, The School of the Art Institute of Chicago), Lascaux's practice stretches across vectors social justice, scientific critique, and play as a creative force, demonstrating a uniquely nuanced understanding of contemporary issues. Lascaux's biting essays and artistic creations have garnered widespread recognition, having exhibited with Loyal Gallery, McLennon Pen Co., and Martha's, among others, and with writing featured in various notable publications.
